Banned Books Back! Budget

Shipping free books is expensive! To support this project, we're seeking to raise around $30k.

Shipping — $17,500

Delivery of books is our biggest expected cost, by far. Money raised will cover postage for 2,000 packages direct to kids, with an average cost of $7.30/household. Additional funds will cover freight shipments to community partners.

Printing — $3,500

Every good campaign needs swag! We're working with friends at Off Color Decals in Tennessee to produce 3,000 stickers featuring our antifascist possum designed by illustrator Des Revol. We'll also be printing kids zines from Eternia Press to include with every shipment.

Labor — $3,200

Although Firestorm is committed to covering the costs associated with staff time, we've made the decision to enlist contract support from someone who can provide ten hours a week of dedicated campaign organizing work, including outreach, partner coordination, and volunteer workday planning.

Storage — $3,000

We're handling over twice as many banned books as are currently shelved in our bookstore! Without space to hold them at our shop we've had to rent a large storage unit.

Packaging Materials — $1,900

We want every book bundle to arrive safe and sound. We'll reuse as many materials as possible, but buying boxes, tape, and labels is essential.

Crowdfunding Fees — $870

We're fundraising to cover our budget through Givebutter, a platform that charges 2.9% plus 30¢ for each donation processed.

Trash Fascism, Not Books
Request Books Support the Campaign

We see resistance to book banning as inseparable from the fight against fascism, which seeks to erase ideas as a precursor to erasing people.
