Firestorm Orientation

Firestorm Cafe & Books is a worker cooperative seeking reliable, inspired and driven individuals for paid internship positions -- a path to co-ownership of the business. Pay is based on gross sales and is very low. This is a labor of love and, at this time, probably not a good option for individuals primarily concerned with paying the bills.

Established in 2008, we seek to provide community space, critical literature and an alternative economic model based on cooperative, libertarian principles. We are seeking folks possessing an entrepreneurial spirit to join us. As a potential worker-owner, you must be capable of taking responsibility for many aspects of the business. There is no boss or general manager. Instead we work together as a group, making all major decisions using a formalized consensus process.

Responsibilities for interns are similar to those of all worker-owners and include shift work, management duties, working group activity and attendance at weekly general meetings. Compensation for interns is the same as for worker-owners and, as noted above, fluctuates based on gross sales (did we mention that it was low?).

Applicants should possess good customer service skills and must be interested in joining us for a minimum of at least one year. Experience with baking, bookkeeping, food service, promo and publicity as well as cooperative decision-making is a plus. Individuals from historically marginalized backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Please bring your resume!
